Official mental health and wellbeing day reveals benefits of sound therapy for stress relief

The UK Shaolin Temple in Southampton opened its doors on Saturday 9th November to promote mental health and wellbeing awareness, by hosting a charity event that brought together the expert skills of local health therapists, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and Meditation practitioners. A highlight of the night includes a musical healing gong bath experience provided by sound therapist Scania Price.

A collection of people coming from all over Southampton and Bournemouth attended UK Shaolin Temple’s Health and Wellbeing Workshop on Saturday 9th November 2019 and experienced a unique mix of holistic therapies and wellbeing activities. All participants explored the wellbeing gift stalls, signed-up for a free physiotherapy consultation or massage with sports therapists Alex Gingell and Georgie Waller. Shifu Shi Yan Ming, 34th generation Shaolin Warrior Monk from China, introduced the healing and energising benefits of Tai Chi and Qi Gong, followed by some simple meditation techniques presented by acupuncturist Martin Niven. The event culminated with a spiritually charged musical gong bath that provides a sonic massage for body and mind to open the heart and uplift the spirit.

“The gong bath was a truly unique experience for me and I enjoyed the peaceful and relaxing experience.” (Janine Brauer)

All proceeds from the event goes towards the development of the UKST Wellbeing Hub, which is an innovative community initiative to support mental health and wellbeing in the Southampton area.

Every Monday the UKST Wellbeing Hub offers FREE mindfulness and meditation sessions at the UK Shaolin Temple centre in Pitt Road, Liners Industrial Estate, Southampton.
